Stewart,
so according to the article below, there is only a certain number of people
who we can treat with back pain, simply because if the disc is torn past a
certain point, then they have to either live with the pain or have surgery??
I am strongly against any type of back surgery, because from what I have
seen in hospitals and in the outpatient setting, usually the patient will
have the same problem over and over again. It does not cure the problem. I
know for a fact that Prof. Bogduk speaks out against physiotherapy even
though he is a very knowledgeable doctor and prefers the knife.
But from the article below, it makes my work more plausible. What could be
happening (and this is only my theory) is that because the tight psoas
muscles can produce compressive forces in the back, it may be an entity that
forces the nucleus pulposis out of the disc and into the neural structures.
Therefore, no matter how much nuclues pulposis flows back, the disc may
still prolaps again if one does not treat the tight psoas muscle (which in
turn will reduce the compressive force). As with the healing of the discs...
it doesn't matter whether the disc does heal or not, as long as the
compressive forces are reduced, the patient should not have any pain, which
emphasize the importance of stretches and exercises to maintain psoas
length. It is just a thought that I have from what you have said... how does
this sound to you, Stewart??
