Learned medievalists,
On Radio 4's Today Programme this morning, the ex-Python Terry Jones was
promoting his book which is researching the possibility that Chaucer was
murdered for his political stance. Nigel Saul was on the line too, saying
that in the absence of evidence, there was very little to back this
supposition up and that, in any case, Chaucer was ironic in his social and
religious comment, rather than overtly political. As a complete ignoramus
concerning things Chaucerian, is this anything more than a fanciful
suggestion?
