Dear all, whilst reading an article on the petrol crisis at this site:
http://www.author.co.uk/mag/polemia.htm
I came across this quote on Clarkson
"The boy-child Clarkson appears on British TV encouraging us all to buy
bigger and faster. At 6'7" tall he is unusually large, something of a
freak even these days. Clearly he is someone not qualified to judge
the suitability of people carrying vehicles. He is beyond us all in
size, wants to be in front of us all in speed and acceleration and, in
my 'umble opinion, is behind in imagination and in understanding of the
consequences of his behaviour. "
I wrote to the author of the article to point out that although I
personally agreed with his opinion on the petrol crisis and though I
also dislike Clarkson, his comments were, in my opinion, disablist and
tainted his article with ignorance and prejudice by implying that his
'freakishness' clouded his ability to judge.
The author replied by saying that he stands by his comments and I should
drop the PC attitude and invest my efforst into stopping pollution and
so on. (I can forward both my letter and the reply if you are
interested)
I was wondering what you think (if you have had the patience to read
this far!).
Thanks
Alessandra Iantaffi
