Alban has impeccable historical credentials, is
> native
> by domicile if not by birth
Native British, perhaps, but not English. He might do very well for a
patron of Britain. George is a suitable patron for England because the
English have always been down on dragons, as witness Beowulf. The
British (i.e. the Welsh) on the other hand, have a dragon as their
standard. The English, with their cross of St George, and the Welsh,
with their dragon, form a paradoxical sort of union. It would upset
the apple cart to try to foist Alban onto England.
Oriens (for the record, I am half Welsh and half English).
