> Finbar, bishop (633): Upon this death, the sun did not set for a
> fortnight.
A fairly minor miracle by Finbarr's standards. When he was sent to
Rome to be ordained bishop, the Pope said "In no way are we worthy to
ordain you. You must return to Ireland and there God will provide
worthier ministers for your ordination." Finbarr returned to Cork, and
there, in the predecessor of what is now St Finbarre's (Church of
Ireland) cathedral, the holy man was exalted to the rafters and
ordained by the holy angels themselves.
And friends, the story is true. I know, because I once taught at
University College Cork (motto: "Where Finbarr taught, let Munster
learn") and was churchwarden to that same cathedral.
Elasticus.
