In my graduate student days (which are not long past), I
was required to buy this massive (1950 pp.) volume:
Habig, Marion A., ed. _St. Francis of Assisi: Writings and
Early Biographies: English Omnibus of the Sources for the
Life of St. Francis_. 4th rev. ed. Quincy, IL: Franciscan
Press, 1991.
It contains both lives by Thomas of Celano, the life by
Bonaventure, Francis' own writings, and miscellaneous other
pieces. The translations of the lives by Celano is about
40 years old, but is still serviceable. According to the
Franciscan Press website, the price is $64.95. The website
for the press is:
http://www.quincy.edu/fpress/
They can probably help you with further details.
