There are two churches near York dedicated to St Everilda. The
medieval (Anglican) church at Nether Poppleton, a short distance from
where I live, and the 19th century Catholic church at Everingham (named
for the saint). This is an enormous building, more like a cathedral,
though the village is tiny. The reason for this is that it is built on
an estate which formerly belonged to the Duke of Norfolk, a very
prominent and wealthy Catholic. I once said a Mass there, and I
believe our correspondent Mike Forbester arranges Latin masses there.
Very lovely, I'm sure.
Bill.
