in the William Foyles Sale catalogue I referred to there is one book of
hours (Utrecht use) that apparently once had 12 pilgrims badges sewn on to
it (lot 61) but monastery seals would be a bit unwieldy for all but the
most Joan Collinsy of finger ornaments / cartulary pages.
There is someone called Elizabeth New who is about to embark on a project on
the religious imagery of seals. She has spent the last year doing
familiarisation at the Public Record Office in London.
