Subject: RE: what is the historic environment?
Have you considered printing submitting these exhanges as a response
to the consultation? I'm sure it would be appreciated, thugh it shouldn't
replace any more formal response invididual SMRs or SMR forum may choose to
make, and any such submission should make this clear. What do
members/contributors think?.
You may be interested to know that much of what the Forum is saying
echoes the conversations had within the Steering Groups and Working Groups
of the Historic Environment Review.about the nature of the historic
environment - hopefully this is reflected in what the papers say, too.
What will be of detailed interest to the Review are:
- specific examples of good/innovative practise;
- answers where the general question 'what is the historic
environment' (about which there is now widespread agreement, though
legislation hasn't really caught up with the vision most of us share)
becomes the specific question 'what does this definition mean for SMRs/local
authorities/records in general?'.
detailed commentary on the specific definition given in the Discussion
Papers. If we all generally agree, what are the weak points of this
definition?
