Dear all,
We've had some interesting contributions on the Historic Environment Review
and I hope that more people will now have had time to read and think about
the consultation papers and will be keen to contribute to the discussion
this week.
I suggest that we should move the discussion forwards now to paper 2:
Belonging which begins by saying:
'Our starting point is that everyone in England should have the opportunity
to:
- use, delight in and draw meaning from the historic environment
-enjoy access to information, activities and resources
-participate in the identification, understanding, use and conservation of
the historic environment'
We all know that SMRs are in the business of managing and making available
information about the historic environment. The contributions that we've
had off the topic of the e-conference over the last week have served to
highlight some current projects - extensive urban surveys, the OASIS
project, the ADS catalogue and HEIRNET. The information is out there but
how can it be used to support the government's agendas to promote social
inclusion and appreciation of the heritage by young people and those from
ethnic minorities?
Kate
