Meg,
I've been meaning to write you for a long time. I should blame my inertia
on the terrible weather we've been having--cold, wet and very grey. I've
propped on my desk that lovely blooming card you sent to remind me that
things actually flower.
Congratulations on tenure--I knew you would get it. Are you in Iceland yet?
Are you thrilled to have a year away? Other than grants and house hunting,
do you have anything special to work on?
We're going through some odd times at UVM. The administration offered a
very attractive "voluntary separation" which most of my friends have opted
to take. If I open my eyes, the landscape looks clearcut, so I'm not
looking. I'm spending most of the summer working on the Prioress's
sources and analogues and transcibing that SS manuscript in my spare time.
Do you know anything about the Mariu saga? Is there a description of it in
a language other than Scandanavian or German? I have Musaffia--he's very
hard to figure out because most of his lists reference previous lists.
How goes TASC? My editor at Michigan is very interested in this project.
I hope he gets in touch with Graham.
Thanks again for your note. I hope you're enjoying your freedom.
Laurel
