Subject: For moderation - Re: Intarch-interest posting: Publishing Site Reports
With Reference to publishing on the web.
Where units are concerned I for see one major problem that of client
confidentiality. Having just spoken with a member of a unit aout a local
site he was unable to disclose facts about the site other than the broad
details. He stated that client confidentiality stopped him doing this. Yet
he was in the process of writing his report for the client/county
archaeologist.
I am at pains to understand how client confidentiality can be used when
PPG16 states that excavations should be published in a reasonable time
scale. What is reasonable?
However I think the publishing of excavation reports on the web is within
itself a very good idea and look forward to the day when this happens. What
though will the implications be woth the loss of revenue i.e publiation
sales etc?
