Re: Subscriptions and Access to Internet Archaeology | changed list
settings
Dear Intarchers,
It has been theoretical until now, but...
... all *.ac.uk institutions are now barred from accessing Internet
Archaeology journal articles from Issue 2 onwards unless they have paid a
subscription.
Several UK universities have paid or are in the process of paying for a
subscription and their usage is now authenticated via IP, so for them,
access is seamless and they will no longer get a username/password
prompt.
Please note that previously registered usernames and passwords associated
with .ac.uk domains have been 'stripped out' from our user database and
are *no longer valid*. This has resulted in a drop in our number of
registered readers by several thousand, but the figure pleasingly still
sits at over 22,000.
For those of you who are affected by this and no longer have access,
please show your support for electronic publishing. Your library rep
will have been contacted about this but do urge them, if they have not
done so already, to take out a subscription to Internet Archaeology on
your behalf.

Note that editorials and CD-Rom reviews are still freely available, as is
all of Issue 1, which remains our 'free trial issue'. A username/password
is no longer required for any articles in this issue.

On a different score, with the recent run of off-list messages, I have
changed the intarch-interest list settings and the list is now
*moderated*. This means that all messages will be sent to me for checking
before forwarding to the list. At times, this will result in a slight
delay, and on the downside, they will all appear to come from me! I hope
that it will not prevent discussion, and it will stop the 'spam'. But in
the future if you feel that some off-topic emails still get through, then
you'll know who to blame!
:-)
