Dear medieval-religion,
One of my history department colleagues who studies Québec, Ronald Rudin,
asked me the following question, and because I couldn’t help, I am hoping
that the considerable brain power of this list can come up with something.
Ron is looking at a ceremony held in the late 19th century when the remains
of Bishop Laval (17th c?) were found. The church leaders cleaned up the
bones and put them on display, in the process encouraging people to place
crowns (couronnes) around the casket. Does this practice mean anything to
anybody?
Thanks,
Shannon McSheffrey
