They have not been dropped. My own copy includes "The Old and New
Testaments, and the Books called the Apocrypha." You can buy a volume
with those books, or without it; just as you can buy a New Testament
without an Old Testament, or an Old Testament without a New Testament.
It makes no more sense to ask when, and under what circumstances the
books of the Apocrypha were dropped, than it would make sense to buy a
copy of the New Testament and ask when the Old Testament had been
dropped. If you want one with the Apocrypha, simply buy one with the
Apocrypha. They are readily available from bookshops everywhere,
published, as they always have been, by the Oxford University Press.
