The annual Fines and Charges in Public Libraries in England and Wales survey contains some information about charges for Internet Access and
use of other IT facilities. It is patchy as not all authorities provide this information.
Fines and Charges is published by SINTO - The Sheffield Information Organisation. The latest edition is the 12th (1999). 13th edition is in
preparation. Most library authorities have purchased a copy from us.

Subject: Charging and use of IT
Hello All,
Brighton & Hove Libraries are in the process of discussing their charging policy for ICT facilities.
We currently charge for Word Processing (£1.50 per 30 mins including printing).
How many of you charge for these facilities (not including Internet - that was a previous posting!)?
I was also wondering whether the price greatly affected the level of use of these facilities (has anyone lost users through charging?). I'm
particulary interested in the use in branch libraries.
Thanks in advance,
Stephanie Coates
