Can anyone tell me when it became common to dedicate churches to Jesus
(e.g., Christ Church, San Salvator, etc.)? I've run across a few such
cases, such as the nunnery of S. Salvator founded by Bishop Aldricus of Le
Mans in the 830s, or S. Salvator, Pavia, which the empress Adelheid
patronized in the later tenth century. My guess is that such dedications
became more common after the year 1000, but I have no idea how to check out
my impression. Any help or suggestions where to look would be much
appreciated.
