I agree with Richard that direct contacts with businesses / institutions is
usually the best approach when putting together a study tour. Our recent
study tour to London (4 days / 3 nights) had just one "school visit" - to
the Bank of England - and this was probably the least satisfactory of the
presentations and seminars.
We have found that using contacts with parents and former pupils can be
productive. Most are happy either to organise a visit themselves or pass on
the request to someone else within the organisation.
