Stock management and Best Value
Tuesday 21 March, Olympia
The Library Association is delighted to be able to bring you the following
seminar which we hope will make your visit to the 2000 London International
Book Fair 19-21 March, even more enjoyable and worthwhile.
The introduction of BestValue has forced local authorities to change their
approach to service delivery. It demands that users and stakeholders be
consulted, that the quality and relevance of services be continually
reviewed and priced competitively. So what impact does this have on the
purchase and management of stock? With many services facing a static, or in
some cases a decreasing materials fund, the purchase and control of stock
requires careful consideration. Existing patterns of use, changing
socio-economic factors and evolving information and communications
technologies must all be reflected in stock selection to meet local needs.
This half day seminar will consider the impact of Best Value on stock
management. As well as listening to the theory there will be the opportunity
to learn from those involved in pilot schemes which will explore the links
between stock management and Best Value. Practical tips for making the most
of your budget, the impact of computerisation on stock management and the
increasing use of information sources such as CD Rom, Internet and Online
services will also be evaluated.
