Presented by:
Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound

16.26 hours of Category I CME
Cover Statement
Evidence-based Medicine and the use of electronic tools and systems are key components of delivering Evidence-based Health Care.
More and more clinicians and healthcare leaders are utilizing a systematic process called evidence-based medicine. A basic understanding of evidence-based medicine is now a core competency for all those working in the healthcare field. Evidence-based medicine puts the weight of the scientific evidence at the heart of the healthcare we deliver. In order to deliver the best care to our patients we need to develop new systems, method, tools and roles.
This conference was developed to assist clinicians, healthcare leaders, organizational administrators and managers, risk management professionals and others working in the area of technology assessment and quality improvement in improving their patients' health through the delivery of coordinated, evidence-based health care. The conference will focus on the advantages of using a rigorous approach to healthcare improvement and on how to apply the principles, concepts and tools of evidence-based medicine to deliver cost effective care.
Objectives
At the end of this educational conference attendees will learn an explicit evidence-based planning process and the best approach to prevention, diagnosis and management of various clinical conditions including: Diabetes mellitus, Congestive Heart Failure, Depression, Hepatitis C, and HIV.
In addition, attendees will learn new principles, methods and tools including:
· an approach to understanding population-based care and health improvement for populations
· an approach to evidence-based management
· new tools (e.g., computer systems and other electronic tools) to assist with effective, efficient clinical care
· process steps for creating evidence-based guidelines and other clinical improvements
· how to integrate clinical information systems into daily life to improve practice efficiency

Finally, attendees will learn an explicit evidence-based planning process and:
