EPSRC Research Associate in Organisational Decision Making
£16,286 - £18,185 p.a.
This 18 month post is part of an extremely successful EPSRC funded
project exploring senior retail managers' intuitive insight into the
factors driving the success of new store investments. The project is
being conducted jointly with the University of Edinburgh's Department of
Geography. The project is a rare opportunity to develop a decision
support system that incorporates state-of-the-art research methods
through to implementation in the real business settings. We have
constructed knowledge bases for three national retail multiples and used
these to enable new sites to be classified in relation to analogue
stores. The model will be developed further to support live group
decisions. Scope exists for the postholder to influence the development
of the project.
The post would suit someone with a Masters or Doctoral qualification,
probably from management science, computer science or information
science, with skills in areas such as knowledge representation, group
decision support and argumentation. Familiarity with one or more
programming languages is desirable (e.g. Java). The post is based in
Durham. Informal inquiries to Professor Ian Clarke (e-mail:
