RESEARCH ASSISTANT
This one year appointment is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is
available beginning 1 October 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The person appointed will assist Professor Roy Church and Dr Tilli
Tansey in building up a database of oral history material relating to
the research activities of the Wellcome Foundation pharmaceutical
company from 1940 to 1995, and will principally be involved in
interviewing leading scientists associated with the company. Ideally
candidates should have completed a PhD in pharmacology or a related
science, or in the history of modern medical science. An interest in,
and experience of, the pharmaceutical industry, would be an advantage.
Training in oral history will be provided. The successful candidate
will join the School of History and, within that, the Wellcome Unit
for the History of Medicine, and will also be a research associate of
the Wellcome Centre for the History of Medicine, University College,
London. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be based in
London, and will also conduct some interviews in the United States.
Salary will be on the Research and Analogous 1A scale, stlg16,775 to
stlg25,213 per annum, under review (London weighting where appropriate).
