German readers may look at the German journal iX, issue 2, 2000, pp. 64.
There you will find my experience report regarding the "free HPF
compiler for dual-processor Linux-SMPs". I tested the compiler
in exactly the environment mentioned obove.
Using LAM/MPI as communication library for the HPF compiler my
benchmarks terminated prematurly due to several synchronization
problems. The most recent SuSE 6.3 contains an updated LAM/MPI
which might be more reliable. And there is now an MPICH available
with SuSE 6.3 which could be the best choice.
