Does anyone have any knowledge of what happens to plasma
catecholamines in anephric patients? I have been asked to
measure plasma cats in a 15 month old child with bilateral
nephrectomy who has hypertension and a large heart. Clearly we
can not collect urine. There must be an effect on plasma
clearance and I guess dialysis will also alter the results. The
assays will be carried out by my friendly neighbours at Hope
Hospital
I think the chances of this infant having a phaeo are somewhat less
than for me to win the National Lottery and I do not buy a ticket!
But you try and dissuade the nephrologist. Phaeos do certainly
occur in older children and I have seen several. You would be
drawing a really short straw to have bilateral renal disease and a
phaeo.
Any help appreciated
