Dear Mark,
My guess is that bones from discarded parts of the carcass would
be found in the proximity of a slaughter house or a butcher
workshop. A market place, unless this includes a permanent
butcher workshop, should not lead to any substantial accumulation
of bones. Or am I misunderstanding your question?
Cheers,
Umberto

I am writing on behalf of a friend, Adam Smith, who is currently
writing
his MSc dissertation on the faunal remains from Sawley Abbey. He
would
like to know if there are any bone assemblages that are interpreted
as
representing a market place, i.e. through selected parts or
butchery marks
on those parts. I suppose such an assemblage may display certain
discard
and no prime joints. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Mark
