Hi Andy - I can't immediately think of anything major on the dog/fox
issue, though Reichstein (1984) has a bit on dog-fox differences - and
one of the few published studies of foxes - and has a reference to
Babendererde (1976), which would seem to be the answer to the problem if
only one could get hold of a copy!
Babendererde C 1976. Vergleichende morphometrische Untersuchungen
rezenter Rotfuchse (Vules vulpes) und haushunde (Canis lupus f.
familiaris). Realschullehrer-Examensarbeit, Kiel.
Reichstein H 1984. Beitrag zur Kenntnis fruhmittelalterlicher Rotfuchse,
Vulpes vulpes (Linne 1758) aus Schleswig-Holstein. Schriften aus der
Archaologisch-Zoologischen Arbeitsgruppe Schelswig-Kiel, Heft 8.
Sorry, German colleagues, I cannot do umlauter on email!
