Dear all
As some of you on other lists may have heard, most Mailbase electronic
discussion lists will soon be transferring to a new operating service called
JISCmail.
This follows a procurement process in which the contract was awarded to the
Council for the Central Laboratories of the Research Council (CCLRC). The
service continues to be funded and supported by the Joint Information
Systems Committee of the United Kingdom's Higher and Further Education
Funding Councils.
The transfer of the Mailbase service to JISCmail will take place over the
weekend of 25/26 November. The JISCmail service will commence on 27
November. Messages sent over the weekend period will be queued up and
mailed on the 27th.
Details of the transition are available at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/transition.htm.
DON'T PANIC!! The list will operate in a very similar way to the Mailbase
service. The main differences will be to the addresses and commands.
What you need to do
Users are not required to do anything immediately as messages to lists and
commands to [log in to unmask] will be forwarded to JISCmail for a
time. The user will receive a warning about the change of name at this stage
so will rapidly become aware of the change.
However, as soon as possible after 27 November users should:
- Start sending messages to [log in to unmask] instead of
[log in to unmask]
- Start sending commands to [log in to unmask] instead of the current
[log in to unmask]
- Check on changes in user commands (see
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/ref-cards.htm)
- Review any mail filters or rules you may have on incoming emails. Those
which work on messages to this list will need to be
changed from [log in to unmask] to [log in to unmask]
- Reset any bookmarks in your web browsers which relate to Mailbase web
pages (www.mailbase.ac.uk/) to the appropriate page at
JISCmail (www.jiscmail.ac.uk/).
- Alter any web pages you maintain which refer to this mailing list or
messages in its list archives. Although old messages will continue to be
available on the Mailbase website for about six months, no new messages sent
after 26 November will appear there.
I shall send a similar message on the 27th, just to remind you that the
change has taken place.
Please contact me if you have queries.
Regards
Louise
