Dear all,
I have a friend (Professor Rotblat, winner of the 1995 Nobel Peace Prize)
who is trying to find out information on the growth of science during the
past century.
What he is looking for is either tables or graphs showing
1. The total number of scientists and technicians (if possible, with a
breakdown for disciplines) during the past century for the world.
2. The same information about the number of scientific journals;
3. Other quantitative data relating to scientific activity, e.g.
expenditure on science.
It appears to be quite tricky to find this info (OECD data for example only
goes far back as 1981). Anybody got any ideas on where to find it?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
