Hello all
I'm not quite sure why Andy Boddington thinks that BAYS should be separated
from the BA. It isn't necessarily going to improve the rest of the Festival
if we remove the younger children from it - the team running the young
peoples' event would just be doing it somewhere else, not helping to improve
the rest of the Festival, so unless you think that the younger ones actually
detract......? Also, going round the country with the Festival means that
we sometimes reach regions which don't have our sort of activities - which
must be a good thing.
The main way in which the scientists interact with the younger children
during the BAYS part of the festival is when they actually run workshops
for us - as Harry Kroto and Jonathan Hare did at the Royal Albert Hall.
This is a hugely valuable experience for all concerned, and any other
(fearless!) scientists out there who'd like to get involved in this way in
future are very welcome to give us a call!
