Interesting interview with Dr Michael Clark - who is/was an industrial
chemist and management consultant, as well as Chair of the Commons Committee
on Science and Technology - on Radio 5 live, re the new research on BSE
which made a splash yesterday.
He said that:
1. Scientists shouldn't allow the media to speculate about their research
until they could clearly state what the implications were.
2. A minister should make himself available before the end of the day and,
backed by the best advice available, tell the public whether the research
was a fuss about nothing or whether everyone should turn vegetarian
immediately.
The interviewer said: shouldn't we expect the odd panic like this as we
slowly grope our way to the truth? - which seemed a pretty realistic comment
in the circumstances...
