Science Communicators' Forum at the British Association Festival of Science
Friday 8 September 2000
Imperial College, London - 10am-5pm
(LT640 - Mechanical Engineering Building)
On behalf of COPUS (the Committee on the Public Understanding of Science),
the British Association are running another Science Communicator's Forum.
Following up on from Building Bridges which took place in Edinburgh in
April, those interested in science communication have the opportunity to
discuss, debate and argue their points.
Dr Frank Burnet
will enliven the audience with a review of where we are post the House of
Lords report, "Science and Society", look at the challenges facing us in
our efforts to engage with the public and take a slightly irreverent view of
what is happening in the PUS world.
A representative from DfEE
will talk on the DfEE's new initiative Science Year, what it hopes to
achieve and how it will work.
Just five minutes
the popular information session on new initiatives and ideas. If you would
like to talk for 5 minutes on your organisation, please email me
([log in to unmask]) with a couple of sentences about yourself and
what you would like to talk about and we will then draw lots!
An afternoon with STEMPRA featuring
Andy Boddington straight from his PUS bunker talking about new research on
science and the public, what does it all mean for us?
A Research Funder's View from NERC how can they engage people in dialogue?
Tim Reynolds from Key Communications what sort of advice would a PR agency
give a client wanting to reach different types of "science consumer"?
The Science Centre View how can these new ways of defining attitudes to
science help make exhibitions more relevant? Can Science Centres act as
conduits to and from science for those with no interest or involvement?
Come and join other like minded souls, network, debate and enjoy.
