I am afraid that I don't usually have time to get involved in the psci-com
debates and discussions but the latest missive from Andy Boddington has
stung me into responding to his commentary on the session that Jill Nelson
and I organised at the Buidling Bridges conference last Saturday morning.
It is true that the session did not do exactly what was set out in the
programme. That was because, as seemed entirely appropriate at the time, we
changed our plans in the light of previous sessions to give participants an
aopportunity to focus their minds in a practical way on how the attitudinal
groups identified through the latest OST/Wellcome Trust survey might be
addressed. We used the National Science Week, which is coordinated by the
BA but involves most people at the conference, as an example.
Judging by the way in which participants got involved in the task, it was
well received. The feed-back forms seem to re-inforce that. It would be
useful if others who were there would comment through psi-com. I think that
it is time that we discovered just how representative Andy's views, which
seem to take up a lot of psci-com space at the moment, actually are.
