You are always there, aren't you?! And back again with the problem of
the subjective and the objective. I hope you are finding out how
complicated that relationship is. It certainly puzzles me all the time.
Personally, I found Lubomir's comment on following the strategy
suggested by one's professor a wise one. The emphasis, for me, is on
strategy. Strategies are adapted to problems and to people. Each
person benefits from a slightly different line of reading, sometimes
wider and sometimes narrower. A good professor (redundant??) has an
idea about what a student will need for productive development at each
stage of study. Learning to develop your own strategy is part of the
education--as a wise student said to me yesterday.
Perhaps others will discuss their strategies. That would be most interesting.
