Basic details about the fellowship
A distinctive feature of current activities within Leeds University
Business School (LUBS) is collaborative research bringing together work
in risk-taking, decision making and strategic management. This multi-
disciplinary research has involved staff from the Strategy, HRM and
Decision-Making groups within the School and has been very
successful in terms of publications and in attracting research funds.
The research fellowship provides an opportunity to extend this work
further in terms of its relevance for an understanding of innovation and
entrepreneurial activities. In particular, we are seeking to recruit a top-
rate researcher who would pursue research that takes contemporary work
at the interface between risk-taking, decision making and strategic
management and develops it further by considering how it can be used
to increase our understanding of innovation and entrepreneurial activity.
The work would be expected to contribute both to theory explaining risk-
taking, innovation and entrepreneurial activity and to practice designed
to facilitate it.
Candidates are likely to hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in a field
of direct relevance to the focus of the fellowship. This work will
probably be strongly founded in a core discipline such as psychology,
decision analysis or economics. Commensurate with the age and
experience of the candidate, there should also be evidence of a
developing record of publication in significant peer-reviewed
international journals.
It is expected that the successful candidate will have an overview of the
developing research agenda in the general areas of innovation, risk and
strategic decision-making. During the course of the fellowship and
subsequently, it is expected that, in collaboration with colleagues in the
School, he or she would establish and pursue an identifiable and
significant stream of research and related work within it.
Staff of the Business School who are working in the areas of innovation,
risk and strategic decision-making include: Nicola Bown, Keith Glaister,
Gerard Hodgkinson, John Maule, Alan Pearman and Daniel Read.
