The Gale Group, producers of a range of business databases including
Business and Company Resource Center and Investext Plus, are again
inviting
nominations for the 2000 winner of the European Business Librarian Award.
This award is open to all UK and European business librarians currently
working in the academic and public arenas, and recognises excellence and
innovation within the profession. The arrangements for this prestigious
award have been co-ordinated with the European Business Schools Librarians
Group and the British Business Schools Librarians Group, although it is not
necessary to be a member of these groups to be nominated.
The closing date for nominations is 31 October 2000 and the winner will be
announced at the Online Information 2000 meeting in London in December,
where the official presentation of the award will be made. The winner will
be chosen by an independent selection committee, chaired by Allan Foster,
Library Director at Keele University. Nomination forms are available from
the Chair or from the Gale Group at the addresses below. Forms can also be
requested and returned via email to: a.j. [log in to unmask]
The prize will include an award of US$5000/UK£3,000 (or equivalent in
winner's local currency) and a commemorative plaque. The award comprises a
personal cash award of UK£500 or equivalent, with the balance to be used
for approved personal professional development expenses, for example
training courses, research or conferences.
Applicants can be nominated by others, or are free to nominate themselves,
giving full contact details and a short summary (up to 200 words)
supporting the nomination. For example, the nomination could cite an
enhancement to the business library service, an innovative solution, a new
service for users, a stimulating paper or presentation, or any other aspect
of business librarianship in Europe which has enhanced the status of
business information work. Previous winners of this prestigious award
include Tove Bang, Library Director at Aarhus School of Business, Denmark
and Andrew Ettinger, Director of Learning Resources at Ashridge, UK.
