The Phonebills comparison service, of which I have not been a great fan,
has been updated to include new operators and tariff information. The
URL is:
http://www.phonebills.org.uk
I had another go at running my calling pattern through it to see what it
now suggests and, at last, it is coming up with what I consider are
sensible alternatives. I am currently on Premier Line (being withdrawn
at the end of October) and instead of the BT Working Together option
recommended by the BT sales droids, Phonebills advises BT Call and Save
with F&F and Best Friend, or the BT standard tariff (with F&F and Best
Friend) combined with an indirect telco service. Phonebills conclusions
tally quite closely with my own analysis.
Meanwhile, the BT site (http://www.bt.com/) is undergoing a major
makeover with the main pages losing their "Pied Piper" logo and the
structure of the pages being simplified. I no longer have the "time out"
and blank pages problems but I could not find detailed pricing
information, in particular on Call and Save, via the navigational menus.
The quickest way to track down information on the new site is to go to
"What's in bt.com", which is a site contents listing. This is cunningly
hidden, though, in some general blurb half way down the left hand side
of the screen.
Happy Hunting!
