Norman J. Ford asks, "As to Analog Alteration perhaps Coppola's The
Conversation?"
Yes, a good choice, and we may be able to open up another categorical set
with these types of movies as well:

Information/Disinformation and Technological (un)Grounding.

Trace Elements: Wiretapping, Taping, and Point of Origin
or
Time of Trace and Disappearing Origin--Phone Lines and Storylines:
Remember how many storylines prior to caller id had a trace requirement,
usually two minutes in duration, to locate the originating phone number? How
a pre-caller id movie like _The Boston Strangler_ (1968, starring Tony
Curtis) can offer up a chase scene in terms of phone
circuits? How a movie as recent as _In the Line of Fire_ (1993, starring
Clint Eastwood) can re-introduce the trace requirement simply--so it would
seem--because the more advanced the technology the easier it is to spoof the
point of origin (a questionable but standard assumption).
