Here's a related link to an article about the National Research Council
report that came out this week.
"Controversial Report Finds Some Biotech Crops 'Safe to Eat.'"

The "controversy" has to do with protesters calling "for the abandonment of
the report" because the committee was made up largely of industry
representatives.
But note the final paragraph:
"The lone committee member from the environmental community, Rebecca
Goldburg of Environmental Defense, said, 'It is important for people who
are concerned with the potential conflict of interest [among committee
members] to take the time to really read the findings, and the criticisms
... before making conclusions about the validity of the study.'"

Controversial Report Finds Some Biotech Crops "Safe to Eat"
By Cat Lazaroff
WASHINGTON, DC, April
6, 2000 (ENS) - Plants engineered to produce their own pesticides are safe
to eat and could be environmentally beneficial, says a new report by a
National Research Council committee. But environmental groups say the
report's credibility is compromised by conflicts of interest among some of
the committee members.
