Itīs quite another story, but refering to the use of objects seeming
strange to us: When I was in Istanbul the students showed me in a bazaar
little coloured alarm-clocks in plastics shaped like a mosque. The gimmick
was the alarm: at the adjusted time a remarkably loud voice sang/shouted
"a-a-aalla-haa-haa-hoo-.." and so on. First I laughed with all, but later
we were told that a lot of people rise with these alarm-clocks and than
fell down to pray.
