medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear medieval-religion colleagues,
I thought I would share some odds and ends that recently ‘crossed my desk’ (if only I had a desk!) …
1)
A critical edition of the *Legenda maior*, the most influential vita of Catherine of Siena, has been published by SISMEL - Edizioni del Galluzzo; many thanks to Silvia Nocentini for her years of work on this work by Raymond of Capua.
A nice review was published (in Italian) today:

2)
There will be an exhibition of 19 important Franciscan manuscripts at the United Nations from 17 to 28 November (which seems a very short duration for such a display at such a place); a formal ‘vernissage’ (if one can use such a term for an exhibition of medieval manuscripts) will take place on 13 November at the Italian Consulate in New York.
The manuscripts will then be shown at Brooklyn Borough Hall from 2 December 2014 to 14 January 2015, before a final display of the ensemble in Assisi, in the Salone Papale from 28 March to 30 May.
I do not read of there being a catalogue, but surely there must be one(?!).
I find it bizarre that the web sites for both the United Nations and the Brooklyn Borough Hall provide no information on this; fortunately we have not only press coverage at, e.g.:

and

but we also have an unusual video of a pre-stigmatized Francis of Assisi visiting the Big Apple:

3)
An exciting exhibition, ‘Sanctity Pictured: The Art of the Dominican and Franciscan Orders in Renaissance Italy’, is on at The Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee. It started on 31 October and runs to 25 January 2015.

Happily, this web site tells us that there is indeed a catalogue of the exhibition, along with a series of cultural and scholarly events.
That’s it from me for now — best wishes to all, George Ferzoco
