> I am a member of the Historical Novel Society and when I read their reviews
of books set in the Middle Ages I am frequently depressed and vexed at how
narrow their subject matter is! There are all kinds of fascinating people
(particularly but not exclusively woman !) whom I am sure would benefit from
fictional treatment & creative imagination but who are ignored in favour of

?
i can't think of a five-letter expletive, off-hand.
>about (eg) Eleanor of Aquitaine. Bertrade de Montfort, Countess of Anjou &
Queen (?) of France,
does Suger refer to her as "queen"?
just "that woman" or somesuchlike, as best i can recall.
but, if Phil could find a bishop (of Paris? Sens?) to put the OKeydoakie on
his marriage to her, perhaps she would have been anointed "Queen" as well
--but, were Queens anointed (or otherwise consecrated in their "office") at
all??
>and her (step?) daughter Ermengarde of Anjou, Duchess of Brittany being just
two of them.
never heard of her.
Countess Adela of Blois/Chartres (c. 1100) would be a good candidate for a
novelistic treatment, using artistic license to fill in some of the gaps left
in the story woven in a more professional fashion by Kimberly LoPrete's study.
(say, has that been published yet?)
