Hi! I'm quite interested - actually have just done a video-link between one of my
classes (all senior practitioners in Health - palliative care specifically ) with
Baycrest.org - a Canadian gerriatric/palliative care facility.  Can you let me know
when the call for papers is?

Folks:

I am organizing a session during the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology
Association meetings in June of 2004.  The meetings will be held in
beautiful, windy Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  (At least, we hope it will
be windy, so that there are fewer mosquitos...!)

The session is titled: "Social and Cultural Aspects of Death and Dying"

A description is as follows: "It is self-evident that the process of
crossing over from life to death is a centrally important moment in our
own individual lives. Furthermore, how we anticipate, acknowledge, cope
with and remember the deaths of those around us is of great social and
cultural significance.  This session will focus on how human societies
deal with the social ruptures which are caused by death.  The papers can
cover a wide range of research areas, including the representations of
death in our culture, rituals of remembrance, issues related to hospice
care, trends in funeral and memorial practices, historical or
cross-cultural studies of death and dying, the analysis of professional
groups who work with the dying or the dead, as well as other cognate
topics.  Papers from diverse perspectives from within the social
sciences are welcomed."
