Dear colleagues,
A colleague is working on a translatoin of the works of an Italian poet of the quattrocento (1400s) who was a barber by profession. As you may know, barbers were at the time also surgeons and healers -- medical practitioners, in essence. This poet would have had to have been familiar with healing in theory and practice.
Does anyone know of any medieval Italian (preferably, but much vernacular healing transcended cultural boundaries) herbals, medical treateases or manuals, or know of resources on medieval herbalism and medicine?
Thanks,
Sabina
