Dear Oriens,
As far as my memory serves me, I adopted the Albert Magnus position -
(if only I had known then that Albert had used this argument).
However, the venerable priest who questioned me informed me that the
"received opinion" was that transsubstation would have taken place but that
instead of the risen body and blood, the elements would have been changed
into the dead body of Christ. I didn't believe this answer then, and still
don't, - and from the looks of the other two priests on the examination
panel, they didn't either but were too polite to intervene.
Luckily I passed the examination ......
