Information sources in the History of Medicine
with Dr Anne Summers and Bruce Madge
Monday 17th January, 6-8.15pm
The British Library, St Pancras, London NW1.
There is growing recognition that early medical practitioners had
answers to problems that we are just beginning to rediscover. This
session surveys the enormous range of sources for the history of
medicine: from medieval to the present day, from Arab to Western
practices. While the emphasis will be very much on the British
Library's own collections, which cover the whole world, it will also
touch on other sources including the Internet. Scholars and beginners
alike will find material of interest in this session.
Dr Summers is Curator of 20th century political papers in the British
Library Department of Manuscripts, and a former Wellcome Research
Fellow. She is the author of British Library collections on the
history and culture of science, technology and medicine. Bruce Madge
is Head of the British Library Health Care Information Service and is
co-chair of the Medical Library Association's International
Co-operation Section.
