There was a commonality of view and approach that set churches
founded by Irish monks apart from those founded by others. (The organization
along the lines of monastic tuatha instead of dioceses is the most obvious
difference.) Calling this the "Celtic Church" is inappropriate for two major
reasons: first, it doesn't apply to all Celts, and second, it wasn't an
organized church.
Within the Irish churches, there was room for variation. Over the
years, scholars have speculated that the churches in the southeast of
Ireland had more contact with the Continent and therefore were more "Roman"
in their approaches and sympathies.
