Review of current preservation management training.
This six-month project (ending Feb 2000), funded by the Library and
Information Commission, is a review of current preservation management
training for traditional materials in libraries and archives in the UK and
abroad. The review is being achieved through direct contact with a range of
organisations in different sectors in the UK and overseas, and through a
search of appropriate web sites and printed sources. Deliverables will be:
a database of trainers and training materials
a report which will review preservation management training
in the UK, including gaps in provision.
The results should contribute significantly to the work of the National
Preservation Office and facilitate development of a national preservation
strategy. Preservation managers in libraries and archives will also benefit
from the findings, as will those with responsibility for training. Your help
is required in ensuring that we know of training that you have either
delivered or undertaken which relates specifically to preservation
management of traditional materials (we are not looking at materials in
digital format at this stage, though the training used might well include
digital resources).
If you have not already received this information via direct mailing, we
would like you to contact us with details of any resources that you have
used and which you feel should be included in our database. A pro forma
follows this email message but we are happy to receive leaflets and/or
information on separate pieces of paper. If you would prefer to receive a
form in the post, require a prepaid return address label or have any queries
about the project, please contact:
