I don't have it with me but it seems to me that he might find some useful stuff
on related subjects in the collection of Pierre Hadot's essays called, in
English, *Philosophy as a way of life*. I don't recall whether Hadot talks
about Benedict per se, but he certainly talks about understanding early monastic
movements in the context of late antique philosophy.
