What made the idea persuasive to me was the large eyes in the book of kells,
also the floating figures that have their feet hanging down.
I also don't regard the interlace as indigenous, because it shows up in too
many other places.
1) Is anything known about the use of model books, and have any survived?
2) How much Celtic art has survived from before the conversion to
Christianity? Unless there's a reasonable amount, it may be hard to look at
the manuscripts and sort out what's native and what isn't. Also, if it's
primarily metal work, this isn't always easy to compare with manuscripts.
