Dear Bill - (and all listmembers!),
Your recent mention of a chapter on the education of Heloise
caught my attention. I have been working for some time on the Hortus
deliciarum of Herrad of Hohenbourg, and have been particularly
interested in the evidence that it provides for the education of women
within the twelfth-century monastery. I have largely been pursuing
these ideas in a vacuum - there is very little written on the
education of religious women. I wonder if you have any suggestions of
seconday (or of course primary) sources that I may have missed? I would be
so interested in reading
your Heloise chapter (have just very much enjoyed 'this body of death' -
not indignus at all!).
With thanks,
